The DeanBear Vlog Update (April 16, 2010)

Well, I haven’t been posting in my blog, so I will catch everyone up on what I have been doing in the video arena this week.

Saturday, April 10th. (rated TV-MA for language)

Gypsy (the roommate) and I had to take the dogs and vacate the house for a little while, because they wanted to show the house to perspective buyers. The agent listing the house has been pissing me off by wanting to show the house during the week, during the daytime while I am sleeping. She knows that I work a night shift and that is the time I have to sleep. Dan and I have told her time and time again that the house cannot be shown at that time. I think that she is being pressured by our landlady into harassing us. Oh well, she can play that game all she wants, I will win in the end.

Tuesday, April 13th: The DeanBear Chronicles - Episode 12: Assimilated by FACEBOOK! (rated TV-PG for mild language)

Yes, I am now on Facebook! I finally succumbed to the collective. Facebook is the future of getting people to see my videos. Twitter didn’t cut it, and I only have about 250 subscribers. I want more goddamnit! I also did a couple of video and audio tricks with it (the vlog videos are done with minor editing, but I do a little more for the Chronicles.)

Tuesday, April 13th (rated TV-MA for *extremely profane* language)

Boy oh boy, I am FUCKING PISSED! The mortgage underwriter is jerking me around, and I had to vent about it and I was QUITE PROFANE about it. (Meaning that I said the work “fuck” and it’s variations, plus I tossed a couple of “cocksuckers” just to mix it up.) This is what happens when Dan works overtime, and isn’t there to keep me in check.

Wednesday, April 14th (rated TV-14 for mild language)

Dan finally put his foot down, I was getting a haircut. He made the appointment, and even left me a voicemail on my cell phone telling me that I was getting it. No getting out of it. So…since I was getting a haircut, I had to trim down the forest that is my beard (and I have to admit it was getting a little unmanageable.) So he drove me to the stylist before work, and I lost all that hair. (It was getting a little ragged anyway…it had to go.)

The Vlog is BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK!

Yes, I am back with my vlog…like I said in it, life has been a little hectic for me lately, with trying to get a mortgage for the new house, working my ass off at work, and assorted other things. I’m not doing any vlogs anymore from work, because I was asked (not ordered) to. I can see their viewpoint, and I agree with it. Let’s face it, a gay man in a factory full of straight guys (and girls) is a rare thing, and I lucked out with my job at the box factory. I actually talked with the CEO and he said while he did like my videos, he would appreciate it if I didn’t make any more from work.

And now (drumroll…) I am on FACEBOOK! Yeah, I surrendered, I joined the collective. It’s a way for me to get my videos out there and to get people to watch them. I have gotten to the point where I LOVE doing the videos, and I want to share them with people. If it gets me more subscribers, so be it. There will be (maybe) a new Chronicles episode this weekend, where I talk about it.

Don't forget to RATE, COMMENT, AND SUBSCRIBE!

Notes on The DeanBear Chronicles - Episode 11

Rated TV-MA for adult situations and language

This is IT!  I know that I haven't been uploading any blog videos lately, but there have been too many demands on my time, both work and personal, to take the time to shoot and edit any video.  My last vlog video, on February 16th, I told you all about taking a weekend trip (February 19th to 21st) to Binghamton, New York to participate in a "bears weekend" event hosted by the Bears of Binghamton.  I took my Flip camera along to chronicle the event.  I debated whether to post this as vlog videos, but since I shot so much footage, I decided that it would be best served as a Chronicles mini-series.  ( I did this once before, with my "Stream of Conciousness In The Kitchen" four-part episode.)

I will be posting each episode over the course of a week, so you can watch each one and judge it on its merits.  Some of it is just me, Dan, and our friend Doug Smith talking in the car, some of it is at the two bars that co-hosted the event.  It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I hope that you will all enjoy it.

Part 1 - The trip down, February 19th

After a hard week at work, Dan, Doug, and I are headed to Binghamton to participate in the "Bears of Binghamton" weekend.  The three of us, in the TrailBlazer, spending an hour and a half just talking, and listening to music.  I managed to get some reading in, but mostly we all talked, and WE WOUND UP GETTING LOST, despite using the GPS to find our way to the hotel.  Doug acted like the horndog that he usually is when we see a police officer who had pulled someone over.

Part 2 - Off to Squiggy's,  February 19th

Dan, Doug, and I head out and walk to Squiggy's, one of the host bars for the Bears of Binghamton event weekend.  Doug is a little bitchy because I am taping.  We manage to run across a few people that we know from chat room events in Syracuse and Ithaca.  Like any other gay bar, it's crowded, noisy, and lots of fun.  I also talk about the difference between the gay crowd in Syracuse as opposed to the one in Binghamton.

Part 3 - More from Squiggy's,  February 19th, back at the hotel room, February 20th

One of the "highlights" of the night at Squiggy's was a performance by a "Dame Edna" impersonator performing "All that Jazz" and doing a comedy routine.  Not something that you would expect at a bear event, but it was different.  Back at the hotel room the next day, I just shoot the shit.

Part 4 - Grabbing some lunch, February 20th

Dan, Doug, and I pile into the TrailBlazer and we head out to Johnson City to the shopping area to find a place to eat (a Chinese buffet restaurant.) While in the SUV, Dan and I start bitching about the big mall in Syracuse (which is a sore spot for the both of us, because we hate it, but we still shop there.)  Doug is his usual snarky self.

Note:  Part 5 (the conclusion) will be uploaded Sunday night.)

Part 5 - Off to Merlin's, February 20th, and the trip home, February 21st

Dan, Doug, and I head out and walk to Merlin's. We had been there a couple of years before, and it was the same as it was then. It was interesting, a vendor was there selling "sexual appliances," and the night was intense, wall to wall men, and go-go bears! The next day, we head back to Syracuse, and you're treated to some nice rural footage as we head up Interstate 81.

Notes on The DeanBear Vlog for 2/10/2010 – Double dose of DeanBear

Okay, so I don’t post a blog video daily…sometimes things get a little time-crunched in my life, and some things have to go on the back burner, so to speak. I know there are people who like watching my videos and seeing what is going on in my life, but sometimes I do get so busy with my life that I just don’t have the time to record or post. I did record on the 8th and the 10th though, and decided to post them together in one video for your pleasure.

Notes on The DeanBear Vlog for 2/7/2010 – Sunday at the Flea Market

Dan and I decided to take a trip to the flea market, but I didn’t (which is rare for me) take a note on HOW FUCKING COLD it was…10 degrees Fahrenheit. Surprisingly, the flea market was pretty busy, considering it was Super Sunday. Dan found a couple of little items, mainly for Gypsy (our roomie) but I didn’t find anything that I wanted (or needed.) Afterwards, we headed to the P&C store for a few little items (Sunday paper, bottled water, donuts) and then headed for home. Mostly, it was just me and Dan talking about things in the TrailBlazer.

Notes on The DeanBear Vlog for 2/4/2010 and 2/5/2010 - Getting used to vlogging

Two more entries in my video blog…Thursday night and Friday night. (I didn’t do any comments on the video for 2/3 because I was DAMN TIRED!) Thursday was pretty short because I really didn’t have much to talk about. Friday on the other hand, I decided to record the drive in to work using my FlipHD (as opposed to recording on the bus, which I did using my Canon PowerShot.) The music in the background is coming from Dan's favorite radio station, WMVN (also known as "Movin100.") I though the end result was pretty good, considering that I was shooting in a moving vehicle. Dan as usual, got a little cranky when I turned the camera on him. I have to get used to the idea of doing daily vlogs and getting them uploaded, and also edit them down so they don’t run over 5 minutes. Ah well, I’ll get better at it as time goes by. And it isn’t a mistake on the video for 2/5, I did rate it TV-PG because I didn’t use any nasty language in it (except for using the word “ass” towards the end of it. Guess it is a first for me. Go figure.)

Comments on The DeanBear Chronicles - Episode 10: Is Talent Everything (Or Nothing?)

Sunday was pretty boring in the DeanBear Universe. Had to go to Wallyworld (aka Walmart) to get some new cheap jeans for work. (One pair blue, one pair black, relaxed fit Faded Glory, $8.00 a pair.) Also got some Gold Bond medicated foot powder, because my feet get sweaty and stinky from being on them all night. Also made a decision that I decided to purchase online (from TigerDirect.) Let’s just say that my blog videos will improve for the better (visual wise.)

This episode of the chronicles was a totally off the cuff effort on my part. I woke up about 5:30 Monday morning and just started watching YouTube for shits and giggles. One video by Aron Ching (ForFun808) got me thinking about what it takes to be a success on YouTube, and why some people make it and some don’t. Shooting the episode was different too…I just recorded it straight from my Canon ZR930 camcorder right to the computer using the video capture program that is built into Sony Vegas Movie Studio, no recording to tape bullshit and then transferring. (It saved me a lot of steps.) I also did rendering using the default Windows Media encoder, which should save me a lot of headaches (and reduce the size of the rendered video.)

Saturday morning at the bear’s den (1/30/2010)

Friday night…had to work overtime again…it gets frustrating. But sometimes it goes a little quicker than usual. I suppose it has to do with having something to do other than what you normally do. My supervisor asked me to help out on the taping/gluing machine to get a job out and ready to ship. Fortunately I could bounce around between that and my regular job at the bander, so I didn’t have the time to think about anything else.

Coming home, I knew that I had time to upload and edit my vlog video, and here is the result:

Monday And Wednesday at the factory.

The beginning of the week is like any other, you are rested and ready to work, yet you’re ready to go home after the first hour. Sometimes the day can drag on and on, sometimes it can go in a flash. Monday and Wednesday were like that. Tuesday, well that is the reason why I didn’t post a vlog for that day. That day was not so nice. So not nice that I decided not to upload a video for that day. Maybe someday I will post it as a “lost episode” of the Chronicles.

Out and about on a Sunday morning (1/24/2010)

This Sunday, I felt the need to get out of the house and just walk. I went to the flea market at the Regional Market, and then headed over to the Toxic Mall (aka Carousel Center) to get a new pair of shoes for work and pick up a couple of things at Best Buy. Since I took my camera with me, I managed to document it (including the horrific hat hair.)

Snippets of my life…on posting vlog videos (1/23/2010)

Sometimes I just want to say things with no agenda whatsoever. That is why I am posting vlog vids. With the 1 GB SD card in my Canon PowerShot A520 knockabout camera (the one I take with me all the time) I can record roughly 16 minutes of video. So I can record little segments whenever the mood strikes me. But I probably will get something better suited for the task eventually, because it eats up batteries when I use it. Also, the low level light performance leaves a lot to be desired (along with the battery life, which sucks balls big time,) so having something that is suited for the task will be a lot better. The camera that I am looking at is a Sony Webbie (which I saw when I was at Walmart a few days ago) and I like it a lot better than the Flip HD. I might get that eventually, but until then I will stick with the Canon (and get a set of ni-cad rechargable batteries so I don't have to spend a shitload of money on alkalines.) I’ll still use my Canon MiniDV to do the Chronicles videos and responses to jpizzle1122’s videos, because it has a lot better quality.

Notes on Episode 8 – Attack of the iPhonistas!

iphonista

This is a video post that I have been wanting to do for a long time. I got flamed big time for a video response to “Is it a Good Idea to Microwave an iPhone?” and it surprised the shit out of me. Most of the responses of course were from people who own and are devoted slaves of the “Jesus Phone.” (A phrase coined by the UK tech site “The Register.”) There were a few other responses from people who agreed with me, and some of the posters and I did have a meaningful dialog about the iPhone and how useful it is. I still get responses from this video, even though it was posted in November.
